Annual 'Messiah' performance set for Sunday

Posted: Thursday, December 1, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 10:56 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Sandy Cordes is quick to point out that George Frideric Handel wrote “Messiah” in just 14 days — “and with no computer.”

Putting together the annual all-volunteer performance of the Christmas classic took more than a couple of weeks, and Cordes, who is directing the presentation for the 24th time, said this year’s cast includes familiar faces and some talented newcomers. Back again this year are soloists Donal Buckner, Josh Krause, Carol Barnes, a longtime soloist for Sedalia’s “Messiah” performance, and Leah McNew Meyer who Cordes said sang her first “Messiah” solo when she was 14. Meyer recently completed her degree in vocal music at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
