The Gerkes put on quite an exhibit as prime movers behind 4-H, FFA and the junior livestock events

The deep family and community ties and leadership training for area youth help make the annual Pettis County Junior Livestock Show and Sale, which wrapped up Monday on the fairgrounds.

The regular event, which saw more than 100 exhibitors display nearly 300 animals — painstakingly fed, groomed, and loved over the last year by members of county 4-H and FFA organizations. The task of organizing the event has for the last four years fallen on Nick Gerke, of Smithton, who serves as the show’s chairman.
