Decorated bra contest is a fun event for a serious issue

Posted: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 11:45 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

More than 20 people have embraced themes both serious and playful in the second Moore’s Greenhouse & Flower bra decoration contest in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month through October.

Launched last year by business owner Rhoda Moore, the event raised more than $1,000 last year, with proceeds benefiting Relay for Life of Pettis County donated in the memory of Cathy Berlin. Bras are decorated by local individuals, with money raised through $1-per-vote donations at Moore’s, where the bras will be on display until the end of the month. This year’s proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life in memory of the late Cathy Lewis, of Hughesville, who died of breast cancer in March.
