More than 350 local residents helped raise more than $23,000 Saturday through the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Highway Gardens on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
In a news release, Sedalia walk chairwoman Sheila Ream said: “We surpassed all our goals. I was inspired by Sedalia residents uniting in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. ... With funds raised, the Alzheimer’s Association will be able to provide much-needed care and support to people affected by the disease as well as fund critically needed Alzheimer’s research.”
The Best Fundraiser Traveling Trophy was awarded to Fair View Nursing Home for raising nearly $5,000, and the Largest Team Traveling Trophy was awarded to Sylvia Thompson Memory Care with 94 walkers. Nineteen teams participated in the annual walk.
The walk was sponsored by the Sedalia Democrat, KSIS radio, W-K Chevrolet, Memory Talk with Linda Fisher, 92.3 Bob FM, Four Seasons Living Center, Fair View Nursing Home, Central Missouri Electric Co-Op, Hostess, Third National Bank and 105.7 KIX FM.
