The new director of the Scott Joplin Foundation wants to see toes tapping

Posted: Friday, July 13, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 12:09 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Sedalia resident Melany Satnan has a history with ragtime music. As a child she took piano lessons and played Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” during her first recital. It’s fitting then that Satnan was named the Scott Joplin Ragtime Foundation’s new executive director this week.

“I grew up listening to National Public Radio so I heard a lot of classical, jazz and ragtime music,” Satnan said. “Being named the new director, it’s like I’ve come full circle.”
