A worker looks on from his perch after using a torch to sever a portion of an inactive water tower at the Pittsburgh Corning Sedalia plant on Thursday. According to plant manager Don Johnston, the water tower was built as part of the original plant in the 1940s, but has not been operation for ten years. Johnston said the tower had become a safety issue for the plant and its employees, noting that an empty water tower is “more susceptible to wind storms and tornadoes.”
