Dr. Bobby L. Smith Jr., Sedalia

Dr. Bobby L. Smith Jr., 44, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

He was born June 9, 1963, in Sedalia, a son of Bobby Leroy Sr. and Martha Bronson Smith.

He was a graduate of Green Ridge High School. He earned a bachelorís degree at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., and a medical doctor degree from University of Missouri-Kansas City.

He served his internship at University of Kansas Medical Center; Genesys Medical Center in Flint, Mich.; Detroit, Mich.; Sedalia; Clinton; and Wichita, Kan.

He was an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, or otorhinolaryngologist, with a practice in McAlester, Okla. and Flint, Mich.

He loved being a doctor and helping others, especially children and older adults. He would fight for his patients and he fought hard for his life.

Surviving are a son, Justin Smith, of Flint, Mich.; his father, of Sedalia; his mother, Martha Hernandez, and her husband, Pedro, of Topeka; three brothers, Thomas K. Smith, of Sweet Springs, Dr. Derek D. Smith, of Sedalia, and Pedro P. Hernandez Jr., of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Melissa A. Smith, of Sedalia, Deborah J. Owen, of Topeka, Kan., and Dr. Cara L. Smith Van Dorn, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and his maternal grandparents, John and Anna Bronson, of Sedalia.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Fred and Devona Smith; and his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Bronson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating. Pallbearers will be John Bronson III, Ethan Thomas Smith, Randy Kreisel, Duane Schroeder, Kevin Bronson and Rick Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Reine Sr., Jim Bronson, Dr. Alan Allmon, Donald Smith, Ray Morrison, Dr. Richard Cooper, Dr. Theresa Cooper and Rick Homan. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday.
