Let parents decide what's best for children

May 14, 2008

Proposed Missouri House Bill HB1748 would lower the beginning age of compulsory school attendance age from 7 to 6. It would also require the length of the school day for the kindergarten program to be the same as for other elementary grades in the school district.

Parents, as well as education experts, know that some children may do better in school if they start school at 7 rather than 6.

Parents also know best whether their kindergartner has the stamina to do a full or the classic half-day of school. Remember, these are very little children.

Our elected legislators should leave the law as it is, and let the parents decide what is best for their children.
