Fatality victim important to Kansas City, Steam Boat Museum

January 14, 2009

I just read the “Teen charged in fatal crash” story on the front page of Wednesday’s edition of The Democrat and saw a glaring omission.

Gregory L. Hawley, the driver who died in the collision, and his family are the people who found the Steamboat Arabia and founded and operated the Steamboat Museum in Kansas City.

This man was important. He was an integral part of Kansas City and its history. To make no mention of his background and importance to Kansas City and the rest of this state is negligent.

So I guess it’s up to me to make sure all the folks in Sedalia and outlying areas who read this paper are made aware of the hard work and dedication that made Gregory L. Hawley and his family who they are.
