August 26, 2009

Accused bank robber Jesse Walters was charged Wednesday morning in Pettis County Circuit Court with first-degree robbery.

Walters, 22, was arrested at his home Tuesday afternoon about 10 minutes after the Third National Bank branch at 400 W. Broadway Boulevard was robbed. Walters lives two blocks from the bank in the 600 block of South Moniteau Avenue.

The charge of first-degree robbery is a class A felony, which carries a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years, or life, upon conviction. Walters was in Pettis County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

The robber gave a note to a bank teller stating that he had a gun and demanding money. The man never showed a weapon.

Cmdr. Larry Ward said all of the money stolen from the bank was recovered.
