Assessor seeks to shed light on reassessment process

Pettis County Assessor Karissa Logan is hoping new information on the county’s website will help take some of the mystery out of the property reassessment process.

Property reassessment, which takes place every two years, began in the fall and will continue through the end of May as “we look at every property and adjust values to current market conditions and current market value,” Logan told the Democrat on Wednesday.

“There is not a lot of information out about how we conduct the assessment, so I just wanted to put some info out there if people had questions or wanted to have a better understanding of how it works.”

The new information may be found by going to the county’s website,, and clicking on the “Assessor” tab on the left side of the page. Once there, visitors will find contact information for the office as well as four tabs: Overview, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Assessment Calendar and Useful Links; by clicking on the tabs, visitors may download a document with the related information.

Logan said the overview provides a basic background “on what we do and how we do it.” The FAQ answers common questions fielded by her office. The calendar provides important dates throughout the year including tax form and appeal deadlines. Finally, the link tab directs users to Missouri Department of Revenue information on tax credit eligibility, the Missouri Tax Commission and similar websites.

“The big thing is I want people to know that if they have questions or think we have made an error in their assessment, they should feel free to contact us so we can help them resolve the issue,” Logan said.

She said she consulted with employees in her office, fellow elected officials and others as to what information would be of most use to the public as the reassessment process continues.

“I am open to suggestion, so if there is other information people would like to see us include they should let me know,” Logan said.
