A former Stover reserve officer has been charged with six counts of statutory rape.
Aaron W. Nelson, 23, was arraigned Tuesday in Moniteau County Court after allegedly having sex with three underage girls.
According to probable cause statements, Nelson had sex with the girls, all either 15 or 16 years old, at his home in the 700 block of Valley Street in California, Mo., between April and December of last year. The statement also indicates Nelson admitted knowing the girls were underage at the time.
Stover Police Chief Trampus Jackson said Nelson was hired as a reserve officer in November.
“Reserve officers are not guaranteed hours,” Jackson said. “They basically come in when needed to cover a shift; he’s not considered a full-time or even part-time employee.”
Jackson said he pulled Nelson from the reserve rotation Monday after the Moniteau County Prosecutor called him to discuss the charges that were filed.
“In a situation like this, we immediately decided to let him go,” he said. “We’re obviously disappointed in the situation. We wish the victims well.”
Each charge against Nelson carries a maximum sentence of seven years and a $5,000 fine. He is currently being held at the Moniteau County Jail on a $45,000 bond.
