Prep boys basketball: Cole Camp 70, Windsor 35

February 1, 2013

Cole Camp’s boys basketball team completed a 9-0 run through the Kaysinger Conference schedule with a 70-35 win over Windsor on Thursday at home. The league title is the Bluebirds’ first since 2008; Sacred Heart had won every title in the interim.

“It seemed like a lot of years we were finishing second, and it feels good to bring the title back home,” Bluebirds coach Tom Ward said. “We’re gonna enjoy this for a day and then focus on the conference tournament, which will be tough. We have eight seniors and it’s nice to finally get them a conference championship.”

Cole Camp (19-3 overall) jumped out to 24-5 lead after one quarter, then extended it to 35-15 after two and 58-27 after three.

Tanner Oelrichs led the Bluebirds with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Michael Brockman added 14 points, Timothy Ward tallied nine assists, and Ward and Gunner Williams each had three steals.

“I thought one of our big keys was our defensive pressure tonight,” Ward said. “We did a great job of sharing the basketball. Eight people scored tonight for us. That’s kind of our M.O.”
