Three exhibits will open on Feb. 21 at the University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art & Design, 217 Clark St. on the Warrensburg campus. The shows will run through March 15.
The exhibit in Gallery 115 will be “Sarah Nguyen: My Dream Cain.” A reception will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 21. Nguyen, a painting and illustration teacher at UCM, examines the relationship of brothers in this exhibit.
In the Outer Gallery will be “Matthew Shalin: Paper Engineer.” The University of Michigan instructor is part-artist, part-engineer. He is collaborating with scientists who recognize the practical connections between paper-folding and folding in microscopic scales.
In the main gallery will be “Gig Posters: The Art of Adam Juresko and Todd Slater.” This exhibit demonstrates the evolution of gig posters. Originally for rock concerts, the art form has expanded to include books, films and all kinds of music.
Juresko is a freelance artist based in Richmond, Va. Slater is a poster artist based in Austin, Texas. Slater has designed posters for music acts such as Morrissey, the Strokes, Muse, Mars Volta, the Beastie Boys, Modest Mouse and Radiohead.
In conjunction with the poster exhibit, the film “Just Like Being There” will be screened at 3 p.m. March 1 in Wood 100. The director, Scout Shannon, and a poster artist, Eric Nyffeler, of Lincoln, Neb., will attend the screening.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays (and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays) and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
