College women’s basketball: SFCC 67, Mineral Area 64

Kaci Cason banked in a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift the fifth-seeded State Fair women’s basketball team past No. 4 Mineral Area 67-64 on Tuesday at Park Hills in the opening round of the Region 16 tournament.

Cason made one of two free throws on the Lady Roadrunners’ previous possession to put them up 64-61 before the Lady Cardinals’ Janelle Travis answered with a 3 to tie it at 64.

Antoinette Taylor scored 20 points for the Lady Roadrunners, Adella Randle-El added 12 and Mia Wesley notched 11.

State Fair, which split two regular-season meetings with Mineral Area, will face top-seeded Crowder College at 5 p.m. Friday at Poplar Bluff in the semifinal round.

Crowder won both regular-season meetings.
