Prep baseball: California 9, Tipton 5

California scored four runs in the second and four more in the fourth in a 9-5 win on Monday at Tipton.

Grant Huhman took the loss for the Cardinals, allowing seven runs four earned in three-plus innings of work. He struck out four.

Chad Stover came on in relief and allowed two hits in four innings, striking out three.

At the plate, Stover had a solo home run in the fifth inning. Riley Brant went 3 for 3 and scored two runs. Wade Wood hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first to put Tipton in the lead before California rallied to take the lead in the second.

Tipton (0-2) will host Lincoln in its Kaysinger Conference opener on Thursday.
