JROTC receives eight trophies

The Smith-Cotton JROTC drill team competed Sunday and Monday in the mixed and unarmed divisions at the National High School Drill Team Championship at Daytona Beach, Fla. A total of 108 schools (including one from Guam) or 179 JROTC drill teams from all branches of the military competed in the event. The Smith-Cotton drill team earned a total of eight national trophies

In the mixed division, Cadet Master Sgt. Rachael DeMent received the first place commander’s trophy. Platoon inspection received fourth place; platoon regulation, second place; platoon exhibition, third place; color guard, fourth place; and squad exhibition, second place.

In the unarmed division, the platoon regulation received fourth place and the platoon exhibition received second place.  

Retired Lt. Col. Harry Cunningham said, “We are truly grateful for the support of Sedalia School District 200, veterans’ groups, community sponsors and parents and friends of the Smith-Cotton High School JROTC program for making this trip possible.”
