Mothers and their families are invited to start a new tradition this Mother’s Day weekend with the third annual Super Mom Walk and Run, set for Saturday at the upper midway by the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds
“What we’re trying to do is get families to enjoy spending time together, doing things outside and incorporating new traditions,” said Lori Bohnenstiehl, event organizer and nutritionist at the Pettis County Health Center. “We are celebrating every super mom that’s in your life.”
Participants can choose to do a 2K or 5K and may run or walk it. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the cost is $15 per person or $25 per family. The race will start at 8 a.m.
Proceeds will benefit the Pettis County Health Center Empowerment Program which helps mothers and grandmothers receive basic healthcare screenings like pap smears, mammograms and blood work.
Bohnenstiehl said she believes what makes this walk so different that it focuses on families, rather than individual runners. Attendees are invited to bring their children, whether they are in strollers or are in their teens. Senior citizens are invited to attend as well.
After the walk, a drawing for prizes that incorporate family togetherness will be held.
Prizes include a four-pack of Royals tickets, passes to the Wheel Thing skating rink and a variety of gift certificates. Children are invited to play in a bounce house.
