Motorcyclist hurt in crash, charged with DWI

A Kansas City, Kan., motorcyclist had moderate injuries and was charged with driving while intoxicated in a one-vehicle accident at 4:20 p.m. Friday in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, David M. Fruits, 56, was eastbound on Highway M when he traveled off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch, where he was ejected from his motorcycle.

He was transported to University Hospital by Lifeflight Ambulance.

Fruits was also charged with failure to drive on the right side of the roadway.

According to the report, he was wearing a safety helmet.
