Pettis County 4-H members attend state congress

June 28, 2013

Ten youth from Pettis County 4-H attended the 68th annual State 4-H Congress May 29-31 on the campus of the University of Missouri at Columbia with nearly 300 other Missouri teens. Those attending were: Sydney Anderson, McKenna Clippert, Colton Gerke, Katie Gibbs, Brittany Hall, Tori Karigan, Alexa Mathis, Laurel McMillin, Jessica Phillips and Heather Savage.

Participants experienced life on a university campus and the opportunity to elect the next State 4-H Council. Workshops were held on topics ranging from creating websites to citizen response to active threats, in addition to more traditional ones for babysitting, livestock judging and food preparation using locally grown products.

Aaron Davis, a member of the 1994 AP national champion in football for the University of Nebraska, challenged 4-H members to make wise choices during the summer months during his keynote address.

The State 4-H Council represents Missouri 4-H youth, provides youth input on 4-H policy issues, and plays a major role in the statewide 4-H youth events of University of Missouri Extension.
