The Chillicothe Mudcats scored three runs in the fourth, seven in the fifth and six more in the sixth in an 18-5 win over the Sedalia Bombers in a MINK League game Friday night at Chillicothe.
Bombers starter Brett Thomas lasted just four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.
Levi Skinner came on to start the fifth and faced eight batters, retiring just one while allowing seven runs on four walks and three hits.
From there, manager Jud Kindle began using position players on the mound with Jess Cartner, Zach Lavy, Tony Sandifer and Curtiss Bunch each seeing time on the mound.
Cartner got out of the fifth and pitched into the sixth, allowing four runs while striking out two. Lavy finished the sixth while walking one and allowing two runs on four hits. Bunch struck out three.
After the Mudcats scored in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead, the Bombers evened the game in the fourth. Nick DeLorenzo led off with a double and later scored.
The Bombers tied it again in the fifth. DeLorenzo hit a two-out, bases-loaded double to score Mylz Jones, Christian Bunch and Randy Medellin. DeLorenzo was thrown out trying to advance to third, ending the inning.
The Bombers got their final run when Curtiss Bunch drove in Sandifer with a two-out single in the eighth.
DeLorenzo and Ty White each went 2 for 5 in the game. Chillicothe’s Tanner Bily went 4 for 6, scoring three runs and driving in two. David Zorn and Reyn Sugai each went 3 for 5 with Zorn driving in four runs. Nathan Lukes went 3 for 6 with three RBIs and Kyler Offenbacker went 3 for 3.
With the loss, the Bombers (13-9) fell a half-game behind the Nevada Griffons in the division. The Bombers will visit the St. Joseph Mustangs at 7 p.m. Saturday.
