S-C girls fall at Rolla

The Smith-Cotton girls basketball team fell to Rolla 44-31 in the first round of the Rolla Tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 8-2 lead early and the Smith-Cotton defense held Rolla to one point in the fourth quarter, but an 18-5 run in the third quarter helped Rolla earn the win. Jade DeShurley scored 11 points in that quarter alone for Rolla.

Brianna Pollitt led Smith-Cotton with nine points. Abby Knight scored seven and Jessica Coble added six.

Rolla led 15-12 after one quarter and 25-19 at the half before pulling away in the third.

Smith-Cotton (2-5) will face Houston at 3 p.m. today in the consolation semifinal.
