A historic sepia photo of Ohio Avenue circa 1912 has long been admired at Inter-State Studio and Publishing Company’s auditorium, and now CEO Aric Snyder, his family, and Inter-State are offering a free download to the public.

“Well, we have visitors to our building and we give them tours of the facility and that includes a visit to our auditorium,” Snyder said. “And a lot of people comment about how interesting it looks. I looked at Cindy and said, ‘Let’s make this available as a free download.’”

The enlarged print, at Inter-State, is 4-by-6-feet and dates between 1912 to 1915. It faces north looking from Broadway Boulevard down Ohio Avenue.

“I thought it was closer to 1912, but Becky Imhauser, our local historian, she thought it was closer to 1915,” he added.

Calvary Episcopal Church is to the east and one can see the Snyder Confectionery, on the west side, that was owned by Snyder’s grandparents, Cornelius and Minnie Snyder.

“(The shop) was filled with candy and chili and coffee and cigars, aspirin and cough syrup,” Snyder said. “It was kind of like the 7-Eleven of the turn of the century. And in fact Becky purchased that building and she rents out the lower level where the confectionery was.”

Eventually, longtime and well-known businesses would sprout up on the west side such as Scotten’s Book Store, Shaw Music Company and Cecil’s Cyclery.

The free download was available beginning Tuesday and can be downloaded and printed on personal printers or at commercial photo lab, in sizes up to 16-by-20-inches. To download the print go to Inter-State’s website at A photo release form is also available when the image is downloaded.

The company employs approximately 1,250 people in 30 states with 300 full-time employees at the Sedalia facility. At present it offers photo services in 30 states and yearbook publishing in all 50.
