The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers won for the second night in a row Friday night, beating Center, of Kansas City, 57-46 in a West Central Conference girls basketball game at Smith-Cotton High School.
The Lady Tigers (8-12 overall, 2-4 WCC) held quarter leads of 11-9, 28-15 and 38-31.
Kirby Lewellyn paced S-C with 18 points, Jessica Coble had 13, Abby Knight 11 and Brianna Pollitt nine.
St. Paul Lutheran 53, Sweet Springs 46
St. Paul Lutheran built an eight-point halftime lead and held off the Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds 53-46 in an I-70 Conference girls basketball matchup Friday at Sweet Springs.
The Lady Saints led 19-15 after one quarter, 32-24 after two and 44-36 after three.
Nicole Bright paced Sweet Springs (12-8 overall, 1-4 I-70) with 13 points, and Ashleigh Bright had 10.
Tiffany Bennett scored a game-high 16 points for St. Paul.
Green Ridge 86, Windsor 53
Green Ridge took third place in the Kaysinger Conference boys basketball tournament with an 86-53 win over Windsor on Friday at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
Axton Harding scored 21 points for the Tigers. Hunter Niceswander added 11 and Justin McCarthy scored 12.
Trenton Johnson scored 21 points for the Greyhounds. Aaron Garoutte added 11.
Smithton 74, Cole Camp 56
Smithton won the consolation final of the Kaysinger Conference boys basketball tournament on Friday at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center, beating Cole Camp 74-56.
The Tigers ran out to a 20-13 edge in the second quarter to pull away.
Dane Apsher scored 22 points for Smithton. Tyler Gerke scored 16 and Preston McMullen added 13.
Tanner Oelrichs led the Bluebirds with 27 points. Alex Pritzel added 10.
La Monte 76, Calhoun 41
Senior Seth Johnson scored 42 points Friday night, and the La Monte Vikings beat Calhoun 76-41 on senior night at La Monte High School.
Johnson added eight rebounds and five steals and went 5 of 6 from the free throw line.
Fellow senior Cobey Martin had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. The team’s other senior, Clayton DeMotte, had eight rebounds.
La Monte (6-15 overall, 4-1 Mid-State Conference) held quarter leads of 16-6, 32-21 and 65-32.
Knob Noster 47, Holden 35
The state-ranked Knob Noster Panthers overcame a sluggish start Friday night to beat Holden 47-35 in a Missouri River Valley Conference East boys basketball game at Knob Noster High School.
Brett Marsh scored a team-high 19 points for the Panthers, who improved to 20-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference. He added seven rebounds and three assists.
David Barton had eight points and a team-high 16 rebounds for the Panthers, who are ranked No. 8 in Missouri Class 3A.
Father Tolton 55, Sweet Springs 35
The Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds fell 55-35 to Father Tolton on Thursday night.
The Lady Greyhounds trailed 11-7 after one quarter before Father Tolton pulled ahead by outscoring Sweet Springs 13-6 in the second quarter and 21-5 in the third.
Christina Higgins led Sweet Springs with 14 points.
California 68, Warsaw 17
Warsaw fell 68-17 to California on Thursday after the Wildcats were outscored 33-2 in the second quarter.
Mackenzie Weaver led Warsaw with five points. Jessica Blankinship and Emilee Proctor each scored four.
California won the junior varsity game 69-13.
Smith-Cotton 57, Marshall 39
The Smith-Cotton freshmen boys basketball team cruised to a 57-39 win Thursday over Marshall at Bueker Middle School.
The Tigers’ defense forced numerous turnovers in building a 31-9 halftime lead. The Owls cut the margin to 15 points in the second half, but they never drew closer.
The Tigers were led by Zach Morrison with 13 points, while Zion Buckner, Kendall Weymouth and Chaz Satnan each added nine. S-C closes its season Monday at O’Hara.
