Brianna Pollitt scored two second-half goals Tuesday night, and the Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers beat O’Hara 3-1 in a West Central Conference girls soccer match in Kansas City.
She scored the go-ahead goal in the second half and added another for insurance. Jill Vansell finished with three assists, including one for Jessica Coble’s first-half goal.
The score was tied at 1 at halftime.
Goalkeeper Lydia Sharp made five saves to pick up the win.
The Lady Tigers (13-7, 7-2 WCC) wrap up conference play against Warrensburg today. The JV match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Knob Noster 6, Harrisonville 1
Knob Noster moved on to the Class 1, District 12 boys tennis tournament championship match with a 6-1 semifinal win over Harrisonville on Tuesday.
The Panthers got a four straight-sets singles wins with Kyle Zimmerschied beating Nathan Morse 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Jared Yates winning the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3 over Jason Vogt, Seth Templeton beating Jordan Davis 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Jacob Youngblood winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles against Dylan Hawkins.
Cole Lankford beat Gavin Supernaw at No. 2 singles 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Tanner Murray picked up Harrisonville’s lone win in the No. 4 singles match, beating John Abernathy 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Zimmerschied and Lankford beat Morse and Supernaw 6-0, 6-1.
“It’s always exciting to win a district semifinal against a school that’s triple our size, but we also played well in doing so,” said Knob Noster coach Scott Maple. “Harrisonville is a step up in ability from what we’ve seen for most of this year. We played to win and made good shot selections.”
Jefferson City 6, Smith-Cotton 0
Smith-Cotton fell in the first round of the Class 2, District 9 boys tennis tournament 6-0 to Jefferson City on Monday.
The Tigers will now prepare for the individual district tournament Saturday in Columbia.
