Jack and Sheila Varnado, of Slidell, La., announce the engagement of their daughter, Alyssa Marque Varnado, of Slidell, to Derrick Evert Roberts, of Smithton. He is the son of Henry and Dora Roberts, of Smithton.
The future bride, a 2007 graduate of First Baptist Christian High School in Slidell, is in the Marines.
The future groom, a 2007 home-school graduate in Smithton, is also in the Marines.
A Dec. 19 wedding is planned at First Baptist Church in Slidell.
