Schools to enroll new students

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will enroll at the elementary school in Houstonia and students in seventh through 12th grade will enroll at the high school in Hughesville. The first day of school is Aug. 20.
Smithton R-6 School District will host new student enrollment Aug. 11 and 12. Elementary enrollment will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 and noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 and high school enrollment will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 and 12. Bring proof of residency, immunization records, birth certificate and Social Security card.
Smithton Elementary School will be enrolling preschoolers for the 2008-2009 school year from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 11 and noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 12. Three-year old classes are from 8 to 11 a.m. each day and 4-year old classes are from noon to 3 p.m. each day. Parents are responsible for transportation. Bring immunization records, birth certificate and Social Security card. Preschool will also require a physical form to be filled out by the child’s physician. The cost for preschool is $100 a month. Applications for a reduced rate of $50 are available in the elementary principal’s office.
La Monte will enroll students new to the district from 8 to 3 p.m. Aug. 13. Bring proof of residency, immunization records and birth certificate.
Returning students in seventh through 12th grade may pick up their class schedules in the high school counselor’s office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 13.
