Warsaw serves way to volleyball victory
Lindsay Burks shot a match-best 53 to lead the Sacred Heart Gremlins over St. Paul, 223-269, in a golf dual Wednesday at Tri-City Country Club in Concordia.
JayLynne Labus shot the second-best score of the match with a 54 while Cori Whorton finished a stroke back of her with a 55.
Alyssa Harden shot a 59 to round out Sacred Heart’s team score and give the Gremlins the victory.
“It was our best round of the year,” coach Tom Hunter said.
VOLLEYBALL
Orrick 2, Sweet Springs 1
The Bearcats defeated visiting Sweet Springs in a competitive match Tuesday night, 25-10, 21-25, 25-18.
Kristin Jones led the Greyhounds with four aces and three blocks and contributed a solid four kills and five digs.
Sweet Spring’s Taylor Loges started her first game and led the team with five assists while Kim Rennison paced the team with seven digs. Stephanie Krause had a team-high five kills and added three assists and one block in the team’s loss.
Warsaw 2, Clinton 0
Warsaw had 12 serving aces to improve to 6-8-1 on the year with a road victory over Clinton, 25-13. 25-17.
Taryn Kohn led the team with five kills and Hannah Spry contributed a team-high 11 assists and four digs in the victory.
The Warsaw junior varsity defeated Clinton 25-15, 25-23, in its first win of the year.
SOFTBALL
Otterville 11, Higbee 4
Macheznie Craig, Kristyn Siegel and Tori Schoen had two runs batted in each as the Eagles defeated Higbee on the road, 11-4.
The Tigers had the early advantage with a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Otterville answered back with two runs in the fourth to lead by a run.
Higbee tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, but the Eagles scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
The Eagles turned two double plays on the night in the convincing win.
Otterville will face off against Bunceton on the road at 5 p.m. Thursday.
SOCCER
La Monte 2, Lincoln 0
La Monte broke loose with two goals in the final 15 minutes to advance to the consolation finals of the Kaysinger Conference tournament.
Rey Barajas got the Vikings on the scoreboard when he found the net off a corner kick at the 65-minute mark.
Ten minutes later, Logan Austin scored on a penalty kick to clinch the win for La Monte.
Nick Sullivan got the shutout in goal for the Vikings, who will play Cole Camp for the consolation title at 10 a.m. Saturday.
