Blakely celebrates 90th birthday

William “Howard” Blakely, of La Monte, will celebrate his 90th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. March 30 at La Monte United Methodist Church.


He was born April 2, 1918, northeast of Sweet Springs, a son of William Lawrence and Birdie Jane Sims Blakely. He was married to Pansy Louis Menegali, who died earlier. In 1984, in Roswell, N.M., he was married to Wilma Benedick.


He was a lifelong farmer. He moved to La Monte in 1945. He was a member of La Monte School Board and the Gideons. He was a member of La Monte Baptist Church. He enjoys doing anything farm related.


He has six children, Rita Minor, of Virginia, Charles “Toby” Blakely, Jerry Blakely and John Blakely, all of La Monte, Patty Trelow, of Smithton, and the late Douglas “Butch” Blakely; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.


Friends and relatives are invited to the celebration. He requests no gifts. If unable to attend, send cards to 306 E. Pine, Apartment 5, La Monte, MO 65337.
