Paul C. Brake, Otterville

Paul Clayton Brake, 65, of Otterville, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.


He was born Oct. 2, 1942, Olney, Ill., a son of Clifford and Nina Tate Brake. On Dec. 20, 1963, in Albion, Ill., he was married to Paula Dollinger. On March 23, 1996, he was married to Dorothy Gerke Bergman, who survives of the home.


He was a 1960 graduate of Lynchburg High School in Ohio. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1960 to 1963. He served on the USS Murray. He worked for Snap-On Tools for 17 years and for Toastmaster in Boonville from 1982 to 1983. He was a waste treatment technician at Kelsey-Hayes from 1983 to 1999.


He was a proud supporter of the National Rifle Association. He was a beekeeper. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR, bull riding and camping. He liked cattle, horses and poultry. He was a storyteller and loved visiting with others. He survived three heart surgeries.


Also surviving are two sons, Kevin Brake, and his wife, Abby, of Indiana, and Kendall Brake, of Sedalia; two stepsons, Chris Bergman, and his wife, Diane, and Paul Bergman, and his wife, Lorie, all of Sedalia; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Reynolds, and her husband, Bill, of Syracuse; two sisters, Betty King, of Florence, Ore., and Eloise Cole, of Cincinnati; a brother, Don Brake, of Fairfield, Ill.; four grandchildren, Aubrey, Jordan, Gavin and Clayton Brake; and stepgrandchildren, Dustin, Christi, Sarah, Shelby, Jessica and Ryan Bergman, Forrest and Emilie Belsha and Billy and Wanda Reynolds.


He was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby Brake and Kenny Brake; and a sister, Mary Carines.


The body was cremated. There will be no services.


Arrangements were under the direction of Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Otterville.


The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
