William M.C. Burns, Cole Camp

William M. C. Burns, 74, of Cole Camp, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Golden Age Living Center in Stover.

He was born Feb. 27, 1934, near Lincoln, a son of Louis Franklin and Alice Nell Patton Burns. On Sept. 3, 1960, at Mount Calvary Free Will Baptist Church south of Stover, he was married to Rita F. Hix, who survives of the home.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1956 to 1958. After he married, he moved to Sedalia. In 1970, he purchased a farm east of Cole Camp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cole Camp. For 40 years, he was an ordained Baptist minister. He was a cement truck driver for 42 years, working at Herndon, Howard and LaFarge Concrete companies in Sedalia.

He was a security guard for Burns Security for two years. For seven years, he was an officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections in Tipton. He spoke with every one he met about Christ. He enjoyed helping others, hunting, fishing and tinkering with anything mechanical.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joy Lynn Duffe, and her husband, Ken, of Las Vegas, and Gena Lee Strathman, and her husband, Darryl, of Galva, Kan.; a brother, Don Burns, of Sedalia; a sister-in-law, Leah Burns, of Stover; and two grandchildren, Dara Lynn Strathman and Taylor Renee Strathman, of Galva.

He was predeceased by a son, Rocky Bill Burns; a sister, Evelyn Purl; and a brother, Arnold Burns.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Cole Camp, with the Rev. Gary Patterson officiating. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Burns, Elvis Burns, Raymond Burns, Randy Burns, Furlon Burnett and Kyle Burnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom and Mary Ann Cook. Burial will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Cole Camp, with military rites by American Legion Post 305 of Cole Camp.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Twin Lakes Hospice, in care of Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
