Edna R. Sloan, Montrose, Colo.
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Edna Ruth Sloan, 99, of Montrose, Colo., died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908, on a farm near Dresden, to James and Lucy Crawford. On May 19, 1934, in Selden, Kan., she married Glenn W. Sloan, who died earlier.
She attended a rural elementary school near La Monte and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1925. In 1929, she graduated from Central Missouri State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in business education and a minor in math and music.
She taught high school for a few years in Missouri and 15 years combined in Selden, Menlo, and Colby, Kan. She was a resident of Colby for 25 years and spent her last years near her children in Montrose. Her hobbies were gardening, fishing, sewing, crocheting and playing bridge. She loved and enjoyed her family, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Colby United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Women Leisure Hour and Golden Girls.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth, and his wife Sandra, of Ridgway, Colo.; a daughter, Carolyn, and her husband, Paul Buxton, of Montrose; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Majorie Doeptner, of La Monte.
She was also predeceased by a sister, Florence; and two brothers, Ralph and Earl.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Colby United Methodist Church, 950 S. Franklin Ave., Colby, KS 67701.
Services were held on Saturday at the Colby United Methodist Church in Colby, Kan., with interment at the Beulah Cemetery in Colby.
