Obama is hostile to Christianity

The U.S. Supreme Court resoundingly upheld religious freedoms in an important decision handed down the other day. The Michigan case involved a Lutheran church that had fired a handicapped teacher, who filed suit on grounds of discrimination.

In a 9-0 decision (how often do you see those?) the court ruled that the First Amendment’s freedom-of-religion protection allows churches to hire and fire those in ministerial positions without fear of governmental interference.

And where was the Obama administration on this vital question? On the side of the plaintiff, throwing the whole weight of the Justice Department behind an effort to narrowly define the longstanding ministerial exception.

In unusually strong language, the Supreme Court criticized the government for seeking to run roughshod over a legal principle so firmly established in constitutional and case law. This from a president who swore to uphold the Constitution.

Add the administration’s new health-insurance rules that will force Catholic hospitals and other church institutions to violate some of their core beliefs or face the wrath of Big Brother, and the picture becomes clear: The Obama administration has shown a hostility toward Christianity never before seen in the history of the republic.

Thank God for a Supreme Court that is willing to instruct it in no uncertain terms on the meaning of the U.S. Constitution.
