2 teens seriously injured in Benton crash

Two teenagers were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash on Friday in Benton County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Michael D. Runyan, 17, of Warsaw, was southbound on state Highway 83 west of Hilty Avenue at 7:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing his vehicle to travel off the right side of the road and overturn.

Runyan’s passenger, Brandon D. Jackson, 16, of Edwards, was ejected from the vehicle.

Runyan was taken to Golden Valley Hospital by emergency medical services, then air-lifted to University Hospital in Columbia. Jackson was taken to University Hospital by Life Air Emergency Medical Services.

Neither was wearing a seat belt, the report said.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
