Bethany Gerlt, 18, of Versailles, has her photo taken with her Chester White boar, with which she was named FFA champion and grand champion of the open division Monday in the Swine Barn at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Official fair photographer Cassie Bacon takes the shot, while Bethany's brother, Lucas Gerlt, 23, helps keep the pig in place.

But there was an amusing site at one campsite, where the residents had left their bath towels and washcloths on a clothesline to dry overnight. Not thinking that worked so well. — Bob Satnan

I've noticed Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers traversing the fairgrounds on foot, bicycles, golf carts and Gators, but I have not seen any riding Segways this year. — Matt Steingraber

On Sunday, Rear Adm. J. Stanton Thompson couldn’t resist teasing the new Navy recruits of Cardinal Company. He said, “To my young new shipmates over here. The true colors of the Navy are blue and gold. I don’t know who picked out your red shirts. I think it had to be a Marine.” Of course, the Marines went wild. — Latisha Koetting

Not surprisingly, the Bud tent was jam-packed for Confederate Railroad on Tuesday afternoon. Lead singer Danny Shirley claimed he had never sang this early in the day before, and then he and his band tore through an hour of their own hits plus covers of Johnny Paycheck and David Allan Coe. Confederate Railroad will perform again at 6 tonight and 2 and 6 p.m. Wednesday. — John Hansen
