David M. Walker, Windsor
Comments 0 | Recommend 0David “Dave” M. Walker, 46, of Windsor, died Monday morning, April 7, 2008, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia.
He was born Dec. 22, 1961, in Sedalia, a son of Barnett “Barney” J. and Teresa Faye Phillips Walker.
After graduating from Windsor High School, he joined the Navy. He served more than six years active and reserve duty. He primarily was a sonar operator aboard a submarine hunter. He received two Bronze Stars for locating enemy submarines. While in the Navy, he traveled extensively and had several unique experiences including climbing Mount Etna in Italy and running with the bulls in Spain.
After his service, he was a forklift operator at the Wal-Mart warehouse in Harrisonville. From the time he was young boy, he always asked questions and wanted to know how things worked. He was a positive thinker who enjoyed life and all kinds of music. He was a member and founder of a band called Plan B. He sang vocals and played guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He had a great love for the outdoors, art and antique roses.
Surviving are his parents, of Windsor; a brother, Jared Walker, of Sedalia; a sister, Lynn Merritt-Goggins, of Russellville; his maternal grandmother, Goldie Phillips, of Lincoln; seven nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hadley Funeral Home in Windsor, with the Rev. Gene Ekstrand officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Oak Cemetery in Windsor. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com.
