Sedline for Feb. 11-12

“Shame on ‘em. Shame on all those politicians who spent $7 million of taxpayers’ money for a meaningless exercise known as the Missouri primary. Shame on ‘em.”

“I’d like to know what is wrong with the media around here, especially what I heard on the radio this morning, pretty much telling people it’s a waste of time to go vote. It’s hard enough to get people to go vote ... It’s always worth it to go vote.”

“I come from a magical, fairytale land where people actually know how to drive the cars that they own. Turn signals are a magical device to let people know which way you are turning to prevent accidents. And headlights, goodness, those let people know you are there when it gets foggy or dark or rainy so people don’t smash your car into 400 pieces. Everyone should travel to this magical land — it’s safer.”

“Seven-cent increase on a gallon of gas. Looks like old Betsy is going to stay on almost empty a little while longer.”

“The numbers game: I know of a couple who were married in 1956. They are celebrating their 56th anniversary this week. You know who you are.”

“I agree with Rose Nolen’s column of Feb. 3. She said America doesn’t have enough doctors and engineers. That is why Preisdent Obama came up with STEM — S, science; T, technology; E, engineering; M, math. He is partnering with businesses and organizations for support. There is federal leadership, and there needs to be local leadership, as well.”

“Why don’t they just legalize marijuana?”

“I just wanted to let businesses know that not everyone has a computer and perhaps they could figure out a different way to get in touch with us.”

“I was just so happy to see Rose Nolen’s
article in the paper on Friday. I’ve been thinking that for so long, I didn’t think anybody else agreed with me. I just don’t understand how people let sports take over their lives. They never have family dinners the way they used to. ... It’s all about sports anymore. ... If they don’t wake up, our country is headed for disaster.”

“I was wondering if the theater could lower the volume when there are children in there. My son took my little 4-year-old granddaughter and had to take her out because she was crying because the noise hurt her ears.”

“In reply to the comment made in Saturday’s paper about teachers and staff needing to be drug tested: Schools do drug testing on their teachers and staff on a regular, random basis. If you want ot worry about someone being drug tested, worry about the students. ... Leave the teachers and staff alone. They have enough to worry about already.

“We loved Sydney Brink’s pictures of Cupid’s Ball and Horace Mann’s mixed age classroom. Did he stand on the roof to get those pictures of the kids outside?”

“Why doesn’t our Congress place a heavy tax on corporations that send our jobs overseas? When the products are shipped back to us to be bought, place a high import tax on them. We’re good enough to buy their manufactured goods, but we’re not good enough to make them in the United States anymore.”

“Travis, I loved your Washington bridge article. Loved it. I hope that they will save the bridge. I, too, think it’s really neat.”

“A big thank you to the city crew in the red trucks that came down Warren Street trimming brush. We appreciate the city service and the guys doing a good job.”

“It is pretty pathetic Sedalia’s banks can’t break a $50 or $100 for you unless you happen to be a customer at their bank, because you might be a counterfeiter, or a gun dealer or an international terrorist, because of Homeland Security’s ridiculousness of trying to fight terrorism, which is not working overseas.”

“About my already stressful life, and I don’t think I stand alone, I take out loans out of necessity. To the loan companies I owe, please be patient with me and try to develop a conscience.”
