Sylvia Thompson residents observe birthdays in July

The following residents of Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center will be observing birthdays in July.
Cards may be sent to them at 3333 W. 10th St.

Garnette Thomas will turn 96 on July 8.
She was born July 8, 1912, in Sweet Springs. She was married to Milton Thomas, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoys sewing, reading and watching sports.
She has three children, Marion Thomas, of Sedalia, Jerry Thomas, of Grain Valley, and Patricia McBain, of Kansas City; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Theresa Fischer will turn 83 on July 9 and her husband, Maurice, will turn 84 on July 12.
Mrs. Fischer was born July 9, 1925, and Mr. Fischer was born July 12, 1924, in Tipton. They are both residents of the nursing home.
Mrs. Fischer worked at the pant factory in Tipton, before she married. She enjoys cooking, baking pies and playing with her grandchildren. She is a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Mr. Fischer was a bulldozer operator. He enjoys doing crossword puzzles and lawn work. He also enjoys playing with the grandchildren.
They have six children, Marilyn Arnold, Judy Jackson and Jim Fischer, all of Sedalia, Micheal Fischer and Shelley Viebrock, both of Jefferson City, and Jackie Wagner, of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Elaine Barklage will turn 81 on July 11.
She was born July 11, 1927, in Schubert. She is married to Olen Barklage, who lives in Sedalia.
She was a cook at St. Paul’s and also worked at K-mart. She used to enjoy sewing, making dolls and quilts and fishing.
She has five children, Bobby Barklage, of Sedalia, Don Barklage, of South Carolina, Ted Barklage and Mark Barklage, both of Lee’s Summit, and Connie Teeter, of Smithton; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Elsie Lehmann will turn 89 on July 14.
She was born July 14, 1919, in McClusky, Minn. She was married to Reuben Lehmann, who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoyed participating in church activities. She likes cooking, gardening and sewing.
She has five children, Ivy Wilson, of Excelsior, Minn., Carlene Edwards, of Sedalia, Dennis Lehmann, of Houston, Reuben Lehmann Jr. and Gene Lehmann, both of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph Clark will turn 93 on July 17.
He was born July 17, 1915, in Auburn, Neb. He was married to Lorene Frances Clark, who died earlier.
He was a water and light supervisor in Fall City, Neb. He enjoys boating, golfing, bowling, playing cards, woodworking and visiting with others. He is active in his church.
He has two children, Glenda Gleason, of Sedalia, and Beverly Hanson, of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, one who is deceased; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Minick will turn 74 on July 20.
She was born July 20, 1934, in Triplett.
She was a clerk for Circle K in Kansas City. She enjoys plastic canvassing and watching movies. She enjoyed raising her children.
She has five children, Glenda Robertson and Larry Gates, both of Sedalia, Greg Gates, of Kansas City, Debbie Oustlund and Steven Gates, both of California; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dora Burnett will turn 98 on July 20.
She was born July 20, 1910, in Lawrence County. She was married to Jim Burnett, who died earlier.
She worked on a farm. She enjoys quilting, reading and visiting with others.

Dorothy Kirkpatrick will turn 87 on July 21.
She was born July 21, 1921, in Missouri. She was married to Charles Edward Kirkpatrick, who died earlier.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Extension Club. She enjoys watching television and visiting with others.
She has a son, the late James Rober; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edna VonHolten will turn 93 on July 22.
She was born July 22, 1915, in Dunksburg.
She was married to Henry VonHolten, who died earlier.
She was a housewife, who worked on the farm. She used to enjoy quilting, collecting more than 500 salt and pepper shakers and sewing. She was a 4-H leader.
She has two children, Walter VonHolten and Esther Kostis, both of Sedalia; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Charles Schneider will turn 79 on July 24.
He was born July 24, 1929, in Chillicothe. He was married to Verleen Schneider, who died earlier.
He worked at Gambles in Sweet Springs and was a supervisor at Wal-Mart for 19 years. He enjoys golfing and fishing.
He has four children, Julie Schneider and Chuck Schneider Jr., both of Sedalia, Debra Casto and Denise Fries, both of Henderson, Nev.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Beatrice “Jane” Diefenbach will turn 95 on July 29.
She was born July 29, 1913, in Pettis County. She was married to Frances Diefenbach, who died earlier.
She worked at Milton Oil Co. She enjoys reading, doing word puzzles and taking care of her plants.

Dorothy Balthaser will turn 85 on July 29.
She was born July 29, 1923, in Berks County, Pa. She was married to Paul Balthaser, who died earlier.
She was a nurse and a school cook. She used to enjoy gardening and playing the piano. She was very involved with her church and taught Bible clubs for several years and sponsored youth Christian programs. She taught the Good News Club for 50 years.
She has a daughter, Grace Linn, of Sedalia; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

Zula Wright will turn 89 on July 29.
She was born July 29, 1919, in Sedalia. She was married to Clayton Wright Sr., who died earlier.
She was a housewife. She enjoys going to church and traveling.
She has three children, Clayton Wright Jr. and Zula Wright, both of Sedalia, and Cynthia Fulks, of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-twin grandchildren.
