Cast vote to support Sedalia in contest
Getting residents to display some civic pride can pay off — literally — for Sedalia.
As reported by the Democrat’s Emily Jarrett, Sedalia is a contender in Reader’s Digest’s “We Hear You America” contest, which offers $50,000 for first place. Residents can register at wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com and vote for their hometown as many times as they wish, so long as they cast their votes manually and not with the help of an automated system.
Mayor Elaine Horn told Jarrett that should the city bring in any money in the contest (18 communities will win totals ranging from $50,000 to $5,000), it would be used to improve sidewalks in the northeast portion of town.
“It’s a great contest and we’d love to be able to not only show pride in Sedalia but also get the prize money and do something useful and needed with it,” Horn said.
Sedalia could use some help — as of Friday afternoon, it was sitting in 64th place; Lake City, Iowa, is running away with the top spot, and Higginsville is sitting solidly in second.
So if you have access to a computer and want to help your city land some funding for a necessary project, log in, pretend you’re in Chicago and vote ’til your heart’s content.
