Jean E. Hausam, Lakeside Estates

Jean Evelyn Hausam, 84, of Lakeside Estates near Lincoln, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at her home.

She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Sedalia, a daughter of Roy E. and Mary E. Burford Snyder. On Sept. 7, 1941, in Sedalia, she was married to Paul F. Hausam, who died Nov. 30, 1986.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sedalia. Her first job was working as a secretary for Floyd Lively, an optometrist in Sedalia. She then was a secretary for Mid-West Auto Stores in Sedalia, which was owned by the Hausam family and supplied auto parts stores in Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas.

In the 1970s, she was a member of the Sedalia School Board and was involved in the planning and dedication of the Sedalia Middle School. In 1977, she bought Wayward Wind Travel Agency of Sedalia, which she owned and operated until 1984.

In 1984, she owned and operated Atchison Travel Agency in Atchison, Kan. She retired in 1986. She enjoyed traveling and had been to Egypt, Europe, Iceland and South America. She had also been an escort for travel groups. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, bird watching and flower gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara A. Greer, and her husband, Vernon, of Sedalia; four sons, James E. Hausam and Laurence P. Hausam, both of Lincoln, Donald L. Hausam, and his wife, Chris, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Stanley W. Hausam, and his wife, Mary, of Seymour; two sisters, Marianna Robison, of Lacenter, Wash., and Betty Gentry, of Marshfield; five grandchildren, Tina Young, of Smithton, Wendy Labree and Keith Hausam, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael Hausam and Ryan Hausam, both of Columbia; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. July 12 at Yeager Union Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the cemetery, in care of Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
