Plan to help homeowners has merit

(Below is in reference to “Rebuilding Together,” an initiative that Matthew Keith, senior minister of First Christian Church, discussed with the Sedalia City Council before Monday’s meeting.)

I was thinking the same thing Matthew Keith suggested, instead of penalizing the people for their homes needing repairs, why not help? People on disability or a fixed income can’t always pull the money out of a hat to make repairs.

Years ago, my insurance company canceled my homeowner’s insurance because my house was deteriorating (all the house needed was to have the eves repainted). It had been raining a lot and I couldn’t get it done so when it stopped raining, I got it painted. Maybe with the economy the way it is, these people need a little help.

Habitat for Humanity builds houses for people (which some don’t take care of); with Keith’s idea, it would help people and would probably be more appreciated.
