Norman D. Holland, Barnett

Norman Donald “Norm” Holland, 90, of Barnett, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

He was born March 22, 1917, near Elkhart, Iowa, the youngest child of Anthony Wayne Jr. and Zoa Melvet Stakey Holland. On Dec. 22, 1940, in Bondurant, Iowa, he was married to Mildred E. Bane, who survives of the home.

In 1938, he started as a stock clerk with Addressograph-Muiltigraph Corp. in Des Moines, Iowa. He joined the Army in 1943 and served in England during World War II.

After his discharge, he returned to Addressograph-Muiltigraph Corp. He became a salesman and then a branch manager in Des Moines, Davenport, Iowa, and Kansas City. From 1966-1969, he assumed the post of managing director in South Africa. He was promoted in 1969 to president and managing director in Canada. In 1974, he became vice president of service and field administration in the Cleveland home office. In 1976, he returned to Kansas City. He retired in March 1979.

He was a Shriner and Rotarian. He had a home built in 1976 on the Indian Creek Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks in Barnett. Norman became a realtor there and served as president of the Rolling Hills Country Club. He was a leader in the building of the Golden Beach Community Center and the volunteer fire department where he served as chief. He was instrumental in the road paving project of W-3. He also was a member of SCORE and was active in several other service organizations. He was a mentor. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles for more than 30 years. He was an elder.

Also surviving are a daughter, Dianne Lovan, and her husband, Frank of Barnett; a daughter, Susan Herrman, and her husband, Bill, of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren, Wendy Cline, of Shawnee, Kan., Renee Strotkamp, of Kechi, Kan., Emily Connelly, of Olathe, Kan., and Jennifer Herrman, of Kansas City; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery, with military rites at graveside.
