SFCC instructor joins IBM academic effort
State Fair Community College instructor Russ Schupp has joined the IBM Academic Initiative.
According to an SFCC news release, the partnership will give students free access to IBM’s Enterprise Systems, which provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences on industry-proven software.
Schupp, computer information systems and Web program coordinator, was invited to join because SFCC offers online classes in COBOL, a common business-oriented computer programming language.
As a member, Schupp will have free access to a wide range of assets for himself and his students including IBM hardware, hundreds of full-version software products, professionally developed courseware, online technical training, conferences and books. Schupp also will be available to access comprehensive online training materials at no charge through the Virtual Innovation Center, which has more than 800 online courses and materials supporting a wide range of software, hardware and services topics available around the clock.
“Academic Initiative membership will keep our instruction focused and relevant and provide feedback on the knowledge and skills programmers need to be successful,” Schupp said. “It will help provide our CIS graduates with excellent career opportunities with both IBM and businesses that use IBM systems.”
Although Schupp already uses IBM training resources, he plans to incorporate more in the spring semester.
