Sewell E. Baskett, Nezperce, Idaho

Sewell E. Baskett, 69, of Nezperce, Idaho, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, Idaho.


He was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Los Angeles, a son of Eva Baskett. He was also raised by Howard Doane. On Oct. 31, 1986, he was married to Abundia Acabo, who survives of the home.


He attended school in Tacoma, Wash. He served in the Navy for 30 years and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, sea service deployment ribbon, Humanitarian Medal, a fifth Good Conduct Award in November 1984. He served in Vietnam for six months. He retired in October 2001.


Also surviving are 10 children, Marilyn Baskett, of Atlanta, Howie Baskett, of Oceanside, Calif., John Baskett, and his wife, Lisa, of San Marcos, Calif., Juvy Acabo, and her husband, Anthony, and Sewell Baskett Jr., all of Seattle, Jeny Roe, and her husband, Paul, of Sedalia, Richard Baskett, Jessie Baskett, Charlie Baskett and Jessica Baskett, all of the home; and nine grandchildren.


Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nezperce. Graveside services with military honors will follow at the Nezperce Community Cemetery.


Arrangements are under the direction of Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood.


The family suggests memorial contributions to any U.S. Bank or Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nezperce.
