Suggestions for intersection of 50, 65

Concerning the road construction at the intersection of U.S. 50 and U.S. 65:

Why were the concrete medians made so long, cutting off access to all businesses (Taco Bell, Walgreens, Shortcut)? I also think that with the land that was left where the BP filling station once was, the city of Sedalia should erect a garden of sorts with a sign stating “Welcome to Sedalia.” The land where Wheel Inn once was has become a flea market for some and looks quite tacky for new people driving through our city.
