Historian to speak about well-known Sedalia portrait artist
Comments 0 | Recommend 0An authority on a Sedalia portrait artist from the 1800s is planning a visit to the Sweet Springs Historical Society.
Dr. Bartlett C. Jones, a playwright, historian and university professor, is scheduled to speak to the club about William B. Cox at 1 p.m. Monday at the Sweet Springs Historical Society Museum, in the 300 block of South Miller Street. Jones’ speech is open to the public.
Cox was a portrait artist who had a studio in Sedalia for a stint, but painted all over central Missouri. His portraits of Confederate leaders are featured in major museums, but little is know about his life.
