LeRoy W. Raines, Sedalia
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LeRoy “Roy” W. Raines, 93, of Sedalia, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Carthage, a son of LeRoy A. and Anna Battles Raines. On Sept. 14, 1933, at St. Patrick Church, he was married to Denise E. Deschamps, who died after 45 years of marriage.
He attended Sedalia schools and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School. He spent about 30 years criss-crossing the United States. He was involved in the building of post-war homes and dams along the Missouri River Valley. When he returned to Sedalia, he became a business agent for the Carpenters Local Union 945. He retired in 1978. He was initiated into the Carpenters Union on Nov. 7, 1961, and was a 46-year member. He served as grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council in Thermopolis, Wyo., for two years.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Wing, and her husband, Ronald, of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Lynda Lowin, of Blunt, S.D., Michael Wing, of Tinley Park, Ill., Charles Wing, of Sioux City, and Elizabeth Haag, of Urbandale, Iowa; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased a brother, Max Raines, and a daughter, Denise.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Linus Evers officiating. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with visitation to follow.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Church or Missouri Right to Life, in care of the funeral chapel.
