Moore observes 80th birthday
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Virginia J. Biery Moore, of Raytown, observed her 80th birthday on Friday.
She was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Sedalia. On Feb. 4, 1949, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Ellis R. Moore Jr.
Following graduation from Smith-Cotton High School in 1946, she began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator. In 1948, she was crowned Miss Sedalia.
In 1951, she gave up a professional career and became a full-time homemaker and mother.
Through the years she raised six children and was very involved with school events and other activities. She is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Raytown. She has been involved with the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League, Miriam Circle and the Happy Timer’s. She has served on numerous committees including the banner and altar committees. She has been very involved in Heit’s Point Lutheran Camp near Cole Camp.
She enjoys camping outdoors and in her travel trailer throughout the United States. She also enjoys flower gardening and collecting stamps and coins.
She has six children, Cynthia Hein, of Parkersburg, W. Va., Teresa Moore, of Kansas City, Diana Pumphrey, of Independence, Jeannine Raveill, of Raytown, Patrick Moore, of Lawson, and Lora Rodina, of Chaska, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.
A birthday party, hosted by her children, is being held later this month. She requests no gifts.
