Barbara Harrington

Barbara Harrington retired from Personnel Support Detachment, Naval Station in Norfolk, Va., on Nov. 11. She is the daughter of Isabelle Buchanan, of Sedalia.

She began working at PSD Norfolk on Sept. 29, 1988. During that time she worked in customer service, leave section, officer records, separations and was the terminal area security officer for 10 years. Her final assignment was lead, transient transfers/receipts section.

Harrington served on active duty in the Navy from March 15, 1974 to Oct. 15, 1981. She served at VF-124 NAS Miramar, San Diego; Naval Communications Station, Sidi Yahia, Morocco; Transient Section, Naval Station in Norfolk;  and PERSUPPDET Little Creek. She separated as a personnelman first class.

She entered the U. S. Navy Reserves as an intelligence specialist first class on Jan. 15, 1998, and was separated on April 15, 2004. During her time in the Reserves, her training included USS Eisenhower (CVN-69); Seoul, Korea; Ketchikan, Alaska; President George W. Bush’s first inauguration and Fleet Week in New York City.

Harrington has been married 32 years to Dale W. Harrington. They have two daughters, Susan Harrington Peet and Amanda Harrington; and two granddaughters.
