I can’t believe that they’re charging a drop-off fee at the animal shelter. So if you find strays along the road and you decide to turn them in to the animal shelter, they’re going to charge you?

I live in Sedalia, and I can’t believe how fast people drive in the side streets and the subdivisions. My children and I were walking the other night and we were almost hit by a car coming around the corner, barreling real fast. ... I also was getting my son off the school bus the other day, and to my surprise somebody ran the stop sign on the school bus. ... Please slow down, you’re going to hurt somebody.

As this election year approaches, I encourage you to remember all the local candidates who voted themselves a 12-percent raise. I worked over 31 years at my job and no one ever came around and asked me to vote and give myself a raise. If this how the candidates are going to spend the taxpayers’ money, I don’t want them in office.

What is it with all the junk stores downtown piling all their  junk on the sidewalks? It’s getting so you have to walk out in the street just to get down the sidewalks. ... Is there a law against piling all their stuff on the sidewalks?

I don’t understand to bail out these large companies when the CEOs knew it was coming and they’re getting millions of dollars to leave their businesses in failure. Doesn’t that encourage all big businesses to fail and not be responsible for what they have done? Somebody needs to be accountable. These people need to be looked at and prosecuted. There’s something criminal going on here. It’s not right.

I am calling about the dogs being dropped off in northeast Pettis County. On O north, there is a brown dog with a blue collar. He’s a boxer or it could be a bulldog. ... This dog has been out here for almost two weeks and he’s starving to death. You can count his ribs. ... I just feel so sorry for these dogs. I saw in the paper where it’s costing $10 to take them to the pound. Something’s got to be done. It’s not right to dump a dog off and let it starve to death. That is cruel, very cruel. .. Every morning when you go past you will see him. The poor dog stands there, looks one way and looks the other way, hoping someone will come pick him up. It’s just awful.

This is to inform whoever enjoys stealing off people’s tombstones at Crown Hill Cemetery that they should be punished. I am a 17-year-old teenager who doesn’t make  much money, but I do try to make my grandma and my aunt’s graves look good. But I cannot do that if people keep stealing. I decided this year to put two scarecrows out for the fall. I put them out and I showed up six hours later and they were gone. ... One day this will catch up to you. If it’s not yours, just leave it alone.

We, the graduating class of 1988, would like to thank our class president and friend Riley Keele with the help of some real gals and guys who helped make our class reunion a real success. Thanks Riley for making copies of our senior class pictures, over 250, that were shown on the screen. Thanks for all the help, clear from Arkansas. Thanks to the mothers of the graduates that helped. Thanks to our former teachers, coach and Superintendent Lynn Snow who came to be with us. ... See you in five years.

I want to congratulate Smith-Cotton Tigers for the best football season I can ever remember them having. Why can’t Sedalia do like Tipton does for Tipton Cardinals? They display a red-and-white flag on their businesses and residences to show their support. They could also do that for the Sacred Heart Gremlins. I think it would be a great support and morale booster for both schools. I have a complaint about Coach Johnson. Last year he complained because other teams ran up the score on him, and it looks like that’s what he’d doing this year. He needs to give the second- and third-string players more time, and pull the first string after he gets his large lead like he’s been getting lately.

Smoking paraphernalia
What is your opinion on the law prohibiting the sale of drug paraphernalia, including small water pipes or glass pipes?
Because the majority of these items are sold for smoking illegal substances, the law should ban them all.
The law that prohibits the sale of these items if the seller knows they will be used for drugs is too vague and should be repealed.
People should be able to buy whatever smoking paraphernalia they wish.
Police officers should find a better way to spend their time than arresting people for violating these types of laws.
The law is the law, and as long as it’s on the books, police officers should enforce it.
